What is Forest School?
Forest School gives children the opportunity to explore and learn in their local woodland environment throughout the seasons. Through regular outdoor experiences, children can:
- Develop confidence, independence and resilience.
- Improve physical health and wellbeing through active outdoor learning.
- Experience nature first-hand and observe seasonal changes.
- Build problem-solving, creativity and teamwork skills.
- Develop imagination, resourcefulness and curiosity.
- Learn about local wildlife, plants, trees, insects and habitats.
- Gain a greater understanding of how natural ecosystems work together.
What should my child wear?
Forest School takes place in all weather conditions. Sessions are only cancelled in exceptional circumstances, such as high winds.
To ensure your child is comfortable and able to enjoy the experience, please provide:
- Wellington boots
- Waterproof trousers or an all-in-one waterproof suit
- A warm, thick waterproof coat (not a lightweight summer jacket)
- Several warm layers underneath their coat
- A woolly hat during colder months
Please note:
- Children will be outdoors in rain and cold weather.
- Scarves are not required and can present a safety risk by catching onto branches.
- Naming all clothing and footwear is recommended.
Having the correct clothing helps ensure Forest School is a safe, enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone.
